Disability Volunteering

The Project Will:

Find volunteering opportunities for 150 young disabled people within their local community so they can play a role in civic society and feel they have worth and self esteem.

A Project Officer will be employed to recruit 150 young volunteers to train as ‘peer mentors/volunteers’, 100 % of these will have a learning, mental or physical disability. We will also recruit non disabled volunteers to help the young participants settle to their volunteering and ensure a successful outcome.

Non-disabled volunteers will be offered accredited Mentoring training at level 2.

150 Young people with disabilities will receive accredited training in Volunteering and Peer Support through national awarding bodies eg Open Awards or ASDAN.

The trained young disabled volunteers will then work with other disabled young people within their peer groups at disability organisations countywide.

Specialist disability organisations, consultants and young people will be involved in the training to advise CYA how to adapt our approach, subject matter and materials, eg ‘easyread’ training materials.
