DWP - Outreach

The Allerdale Outreach project funded through the DWP will work alongside the Workington Youth Hub (based in the Oval Centre, Salterbeck) offering consistent outreach employability support utilising the libraries and other local venues in six towns: across the Allerdale district: Silloth, Aspatria, Wigton, Maryport, Cockermouth and Keswick  for young people 16 – 24 who are in receipt of Universal Credit.

A program of one to one in person support sessions, group work and additional virtual activities. Utilising a person-centred approach, developing bespoke action plans to identify strategies to address barriers to progression, such as: issues relating to rurality, isolation, lack of experience, skills gaps, qualifications, and training needs. Helping individuals develop a better understanding of the local labour market and the opportunities available to them and achieve their personal career aspirations.

Working closely with employers and partner organisations to explore career pathways and provide work experience placements, tasters, or volunteering opportunities to give young people the chance to explore a variety of sectors without the weight of expectation, giving them a chance to impress, develop some core experiences, breaking down perception barriers, helping build confidence, form strong working relationships, better understand employer expectations, reducing potential inequalities.
