Cumbria Youth Alliance

Cumbria Youth Alliance is the infrastructure body for organisations working with children and young people across Cumbria. We provide a range of training and support programmes to ensure children and young people can access positive activities in a safe and secure environment. We also support upwards of 200 young people per annum who are at risk of school dropout or who are unemployed and provide tailored support to enable them to reach their full potential: Volunteers in key positions will be trained and supported and will require to be DBS checked if they are working directly with children and young people

Volunteering Opportunities:

Fundraising: Cumbria Youth Alliance run the Friday Night activities across Allerdale – we commission and support 11 other smaller agencies to run and deliver a range of positive activities for young people from Silloth to Workington – all these smaller groups have a need for fundraising to keep the lights on or to pay the rent -or purchase some new equipment or take the young people on a trip. Any fundraising activities that you could undertake would benefit young people in these communities

Training: Cumbria Youth Alliance runs a variety of training programmes for agencies across Cumbria so that they can operate in this difficult and challenging environment- we are keen to hear from people who could deliver a one day training programme on one of the following subjects:

  • Marketing and raising your profile
  • Managing your finances for small projects
  • Managing staff and volunteers
  • Project Management Skills for small agencies
  • Health and Safety
  • First Aid

These training events are open to any organisations working with children and young people and are normally free to attend – CYA would provide the accommodation and refreshments/bookings etc if volunteers could deliver a one off training event

Be a trustee: A range of agencies in West Cumbria are currently seeking Trustees who have the relevant skills and knowledge go help them run the agencies that support young people – training will be given and help to find a suitable agency in which to volunteer – normal commitment would be 12-15 hours per year

Be a youth work volunteer: Many agencies across the county are seeking volunteering who could give up on night a week to help run local youth clubs for young people in the community – training will be given and help to find the right agency for you – 2 hours per week

Be a Mentor:

Cumbria Youth Alliance: have a programme supporting young people who are in the care system -enabling them to access on line learning modules that will help them make a successful transition into independent living when they reach 18. Mentors help them with the on line modules and give them moral support and the young people earn money for their ISA with every module they complete – 2 hours per month – full training will be given and an opportunity to undertake a mentoring qualification

Duke of Edinburgh: For those who love the Outdoors -volunteer to become a Duke of Edinburgh Assessor and take young people out into the fells and outdoors to enable them to undertake their Duke of Edinburgh Award – training will be given to suitable candidates
